The Tasmanian Government has announced that its Skilled Migration State Nomination Program for 2025-26 is now operational and inviting applications under both on-shore and offshore pathways. The program covers nominations for the Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Subclass 491) visas. According to official updates:
Tasmania has received its full nomination allocation for 2025-26: 1,200 nomination places for Subclass 190 and 650 places for Subclass 491.
Invitations to apply for nomination have commenced on a weekly basis, with recent invitation-round figures published. For example, on 13 November 2025 the number of ROIs (Registrations of Interest) invited were: 70 for Subclass 190 and 30 for Subclass 491; lowest score invited for Subclass 190 was 60 points and for Subclass 491 57 points.
For offshore applicants, Tasmania offers pathways such as the Subclass 190 Overseas Applicant (Health or Education Sector Job Offer) pathway and a Subclass 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles – Invitation Only pathway. However, the latter is currently still closed.
More Details on Pathways
- Offshore applicants without a job offer from Tasmania in the Health and Education Sector are not able to obtain invitations from Tasmania as the pathway is still closed.
- The following occupations are eligible for the Subclass 190 Overseas Applicant (Health or Education Sector Job Offer) Pathway include: School Teachers (241), Health Diagnostic and Promotion Professionals (251), Health Therapy Professionals (252), Medical Practitioners (253), and Midwifery and Nursing Professionals (254), provided applicants have a job offer from a Tasmanian employer.
- Offshore applicants applying through the Subclass 190 Overseas Applicant (Health or Education Sector Job Offer) Pathway must not have lived in another Australian state or territory within the last 12 months.
- The nomination pathways that are currently open for onshore applicants include: Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathways, Tasmanian Skilled Graduate Pathways, Tasmanian Established Resident Pathways and Tasmanian Business Operator Pathways, some of which have specific residence and work experience requirements.
- Tasmania's Registration of Interest (ROI)s are ranked based on a tiered priority attribute system (Orange, Orange Plus, Green, and Gold). The minimum threshold to qualify for the high-priority Gold, Green, and Orange-Plus attributes is an annual salary of $57,000 or a base hourly rate of $28.85. Candidates who achieve at least one Orange-Plus attribute are categorised as high priority.
Strategic tips for prospective applicants
Ensure your occupation is eligible and your skills assessment is valid. Tasmania’s pathways emphasise roles that are aligned, particularly in health/education, and require genuine intent to reside and work in Tasmania.
Prepare your documentation early: employment contracts, verification of salary, proof of residence or study in Tasmania (for onshore), or job offer in Tasmania (for offshore) will strengthen your submission.
Monitor the Migration Tasmania website for updated criteria, invitation results, lowest-score invites and any changes to priority attributes. The weekly invitation tables now show important data.
For offshore applicants without Tasmanian employment ties, securing a job offer in Tasmania (especially in health or education) may provide a stronger chance of nomination.
If you have previously submitted a Registration of Interest but conditions or your profile have changed (e.g., new job offer, improved salary, Tasmanian residence) consider updating your ROI or submitting anew, per Tasmania’s advice.
Final thoughts
Tasmania’s 2025-26 skilled migration nomination program is clearly moving ahead, with weekly invitation rounds underway, and prioritising onshore applicants who have been residing and working in Tasmania, or offshore applicants with job offer in priority occupations. For skilled professionals considering Tasmania, this represents a tangible pathway—but one where preparation, competitiveness, and timing play a critical role.
